In this easy DIY tutorial, we’ll show you how to use pre-made silk strips to create delicate flower petals, shape a realistic flower bud, and assemble everything into a stunning handmade bloom.
Step 1: Making the Petals 00:00~ 12:18
Pour a bit of setting spray or hairspray into a bowl, and dip the pre-shaped strips into it. Once the silk softens, take it out and use tweezers to remove any excess moisture. Then, use the tweezers to shape the silk into a curve, flipping the top of the strip backward. Push the silk on both sides inward, and gently press both sides with the tweezers to form a small curve. You’ll need ten petals like this.
For the bud petals, you need three strips. Use a rounded stick to press and shape them into a curve. Push the silk inward on both sides with your fingers to make the petals narrower. Pinch the top of the petals to form a point. Once the petals are shaped, stick them into a foam pad, but make sure they aren’t too close together to avoid them sticking.
After they dry, trim them along the shape of the petals. The very tip of the petals needs to be cut into a small heart-like notch. You’ll need 10 petals like this, but the bud petals do not need to be trimmed.
Step 2: Assembling the Petals 12:18~end
String the beads onto the copper wire as shown in the below section of the tutorial video.
Cut the flower center in half and tie it with thread, making a knot to prevent the thread from unraveling. Use tweezers to separate the flower center. A flower consists of 5 petals. For each petal added, wrap the thread 1–2 times. As you assemble, adjust the position of the petals. Wrap the copper wire with thread, and trim the copper wire diagonally. This will create a natural transition from thick to thin. Once the thread is wrapped to the bottom, tie a knot to secure it. You’ll need to make two flowers like this.
The bud does not need a flower center, just tightly press three petals together. The tighter the bud, the better. Once the thread is wrapped, tie a knot at the end and adjust the petals, making the bud tighter. A small bud is now complete. Then, assemble the petals and leaves, and the hairpin is ready!
